What is Saideigama?
A pottery workshop that teaches the wonderful experience of pottery |
|
Saideigama, located at the centre of the metropolitan area of Chiba prefecture,
is a workshop whose purpose is to introduce to people the world of ceramics,
and show them the pleasure of pottery making. It has a nation wide scale,
a teaching style based on open mindedness and friendliness, and focuses
on beginners who are guided all the way through from the basics of pottery
until the advanced levels. Saideigama is a workshop where everyone can
experience the satisfaction of making graceful and sophisticated ceramics
without being restricted from formalities or traditions. Also, its originality
lies at the fact that it is a place that pays no attention to issues such
as the created artifact, the member’s category, the working style etc.
Saideigama is a workshop that earnestly tries to capture several aspects
of today’s modern society, reflected into the Japanese traditional culture
and art, in other words into the artistic activity defined as “ceramics”. |

Open
mindedness and friendliness
Pottery, a craft for beginners and professionals. A craft appealing to
all people regardless of age and gender such as students, office workers,
housewives and elderly people. Nevertheless, our workshop's rare characteristic is the presence of a
large number of young people (around 20’s), both men and women. See Saidegama's uniqueness

Various
fine and brilliant techniques
In Saideigama we practice numerous techniques as small assignments. These assignments widely vary from shaping techniques to coloring and decoration
techniques. We strongly believe that there are no other ceramic schools and pottery workshops where members
can be taught such a broad range of techniques.

Up to
date contents
Culture and tradition is without a question a difficult subject. Especially
ceramics, defined from this diversity is a very difficult genre. In Saideigama, thanks to our original way of thinking we have tried to
deal with this genre and have managed to film an overwhelming amount of
information. This information, having reached the vast number of 200 videos, can be viewed in our facilities and from our home page at home(sample video). Our instructors carry out the workshops based on these teaching visual
aids and participants can achieve an unparallel level of improvement. Also, internet TV programs, blogs, campaigns, as well as the Member's site are tools especially designed for members from far away who wish to be
taught in Saideigama teaching the pleasure of pottery to people from remote
locations. Finally, projects such as the world’s first Ceramics TV keeps Saideigama's management project up to date.

Seasonal
based special curriculum
Basic features of our practice and of our curriculum are careful technical thinking, an artistic viewpoint, an attempt to “capture” the emotion and of course a good balance of all the above throughout our courses. “Seasonal goods” that change based on seasons and festivals and the “24 Seasons vessels” based on the famous Japanese “24 Solar terms” are original features of our curriculum
which can not be imitated.

Pleasant
activities besides pottery
There is a wide range of activities and events such as Cherry blossom viewing and annual parties, Somen making (a type
of traditional Japanese noodles) and Firework seeing meetings. Saideigama
is a closely related circle of people who share the same interest. But
it’s more than that! There have been cases of students from the same class
who met and got married. An interesting coincidence that happened due to
their common interest. Mr. Nakano was overwhelmed from joy…
